Thirty years before becoming a prison hulk in 1824, HMS Discovery was Captain George Vancouver's ship during his voyages of exploration in the Pacific, most notably along the northeastern coastlines of North America. She served as a prison hulk for only six years- at Deptford and Woolwich, never having more than 200 convicts on board. Discovery was by no means the only prison hulk to have had a distinguished history.
